my creative pursuits with quilts and knits

I dug into my stash this week and found some Fossil Ferns Charms (5″ squares).  I have a set of 22 charms to give away!

To enter, please leave a comment on this post with ideas for using charm squares.  Do you leave them whole or slice them up into smaller bits?  I am making scrappy blocks from 2.5″ squares, mini charms I think they are called, so I would take these straight to the cutting table!

Comments have been closed.  I will use a random number generator to draw a winner, who will be announced on Monday Oct 13.  Good Luck!

  1. Last year, I used a package of charms to make 3 inch drunkard’s path blocks.

  2. Hmmm – I might use them to make scrappy Churn dash blocks…. i think those would be pretty.

I would cut them up to be able to spread the color around more.

  4. What beautiful fabric! I would cut out applique flower pieces out of these pretties. Thanks for the chance to win!

  7. I have found charm squares very useful when I machine applique. That way I don’t have to cut from larger pieces and there isn’t much scrap to toss. I’ve also used them to add detail to tote bags when stitched together in rows. Love them!

These colors would be perfect to fill in a scrappy quilt. They are perfect colors to match just about any fabric. I would make 2″ squares for my quilt. I like solids mixed throughout a scrappy quilt. Thanks for the chance.

  9. I’m really into split patches. Lately though I have been making Granny Square Blocks and Wedding Dress’s Film at Five pattern. I just love her patterns. Then there is Jenny Doan who has a million uses for charms.

  10. I would cut them up and make a child’s quilt maybe with a little embroidery

  11. As I am not a quilter, but a sewer, I think I would use them to make notebook covers, or purse or pin cushions… there are so many different uses!!! nnonaihr@hotmail.co.uk

  12. Recently I was gifted w/a pack of charm squares, which I made into half square triangles and one pack made two 18″ pillows! I was so tickled to get TWO items out of that one little pack of 5″ squares. So I’m addicted now to charm squares and my current project, wristlet purses, is leaving ’em whole and quilting lots of wavy lines about. Thank you so much for sharing.

Cut them up to make a scrappy nickel quilt.

  14. I sew a lot for kids in need and some ideas I have for the charm packs is leaving them whole and sewing a strip to add to the bottom of a little girl’s dress, or make a bib for a dress out of them. Also, use them in miniature quilts…even sew a few together as a border on one side of a minky or fleece blanket.

  15. I think I would cut them small because I really love scrappy quilts!! thanks for the chance to win!!

  16. If and when I ever get charm packs, I don’t want to waste any of it, so I have used them whole.
